What type of grain should be fed with Royal Champion?
Royal Champion supplements may be fed with any commercially or custom mixed grain. If you have specific questions about your horse’s particular diet we recommended checking with your veterinarian.
Are the supplements in powder or pelleted form?
Royal Champion's products are a powder granular formula that is mixed into the daily grain ration.
Are the products flavored? Are they palatable to picky eaters?
The products are not flavored with any artificial flavoring. Premium, Premium Plus, and Joint Support all contain high levels of flax seed, making them very palatable to most horses.
What is the Royal Champion daily dose for ponies?
Mature ponies (400-600lbs) 1 scoop, once daily.
Where is the product manufactured and how do you quality control?
All of our formulas are manufactured in the United States and contain fresh, high quality ingredients in the specified amounts of each ingredient as listed in our guaranteed analysis.
What is the shelf life of the products?
Royal Champion recommends that you use the product as soon as the seal is broken and the bucket has been opened. We guarantee freshness from 1 year of the purchase date.
Why would a horse need a complete nutritional supplement?
There are many reasons to feed a complete vitamin and mineral supplement, among them: inconsistent quality hay or pastures, lack of grazing opportunities, heavy training, travel, stress, and recovery from injury or illness. Feeding Royal Champion horse supplements on a daily basis assures you that your horse is receiving the proper balance of nutrients, plus a unique blend of special ingredients to support optimal health, healing, and performance.
Will Royal Champion make horses nervous, or “hot”?
No, Royal Champion products do not provide any source of energy that will make a horse more energetic or “hot”. Our supplements contain ingredients that through digestion generally provide increased energy and stamina for the working horse.
Will using a complete feed in addition to Royal Champion supplements over supplement the horse on vitamins and minerals?
No, not if both are fed at recommended levels. Royal Champion provides a number of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are generally not provided by complete feeds. Royal Champion can also provide the extra nutrients required by hard working horses, horses recovering from illness or injury, etc.
What is the best Royal Champion formula for mares in foal and or a foal?
Royal Champion recommends our Premium formula for mares in foal and foals. We recommend feeding 2 scoops per day for mares in foal and 1 scoop per day for foals.
How well is HA absorbed when in powdered form vs. injections?
Orally administered HA has been shown in several studies to be effective and absorbable. It has also been shown to reduce the number of joint injections required over a prolonged period of time.
What ingredients in the Joint Support formula directly relate to joint health?
Glucosmaine Sulfate, Chondroitin Sulfate, MSM, Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Cod Liver Oil and Flax Seed/Linseed Oil), Vitamin C, Antioxidants (CoQ10, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, etc), and a number of vitamins and trace minerals.
Is it safe to feed Royal Champion to horses with metabolic issues?
Yes, the mineral and vitamin quantities are safe and in the correct proportion with one another so metabolic or conditions are either improved or unaffected.
Is MSM a toxic ingredient to horses?
MSM is not a toxic substance for horses (or humans). There have been no reports at this time of harmful effects of short or long term use of therapeutic doses of MSM in horses.
Does Royal Champion products contain plant or animal based Omega-3 EFA’s?
Royal Champion uses both animal based (Cod Liver Oil) and plant based (Flax Seed and Linseed Oil) sources of Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids in our products. Our Classic supplement only has Cod Liver Oil, while our other complete supplements have a combination of both sources of Omega-3 EFA’s.
What are the amounts of Selenium in the formulas?
Classic, Premium, and Premium Plus all contain 570mcg per daily dose. Joint Support contains 680mcg per daily dose. These levels are low and will not cause toxicity concerns. When combining multiple products that have added selenium, your Vet should be consulted.
Does Royal Champion include any probiotics in the formulas?
Royal Champion does not include any probiotics. Probiotics are microorganisms given orally that are considered "good" bacteria that aim to help maintain the proper balance of bacteria in the horse's gastrointestinal tract (specifically in the cecum and large intestine). The jury is still out on the effectiveness of probiotics, due to the lack of scientific research and understanding at this time. Still, there may be health benefits to probiotics, especially in horses that are stressed, recovering from illness requiring antibiotic treatment, to treat chronic or acute diarrhea, etc.
If you are feeding probiotics for a specific need or as part of a treatment, then with your Vet's approval they could continue feeding them with Royal Champion. If you simply wish to feed probiotics then the decision to include them in the diet should be made by the horse owner and their vet.
